Restaurant Design Project in the Arenas District, Nice, French Riviera
What does it take for a restaurant to become successful, well-known, and reach star status? An outstanding concept and design, a unique atmosphere, exquisite cuisine, and, of course, excellent partners! See how all this worked in the case of Ceviche and Co (Angelov Family)!
The 60 m² restaurant is located just a 10-minute walk from Nice airport, in the Arenas district, surrounded by numerous offices and hotels. This ensures a high flow of visitors during lunch and dinner hours, sometimes creating peak loads. For the Ceviche restaurant, a special feature is the absence of an exhaust system and electrical consumption limitations. Therefore, the restaurant concept involves an open kitchen, where dishes are prepared in front of guests without using hot stoves, similar to a sushi bar format.
A unique concept that combines the cultural heritage of Peru and Japan in one space creates a distinctive place for relaxation and gastronomic enjoyment. This space combines Peruvian exoticism with Japanese elegance. The restaurant design is based on a mix of ethnic style and loft, giving it a special character and coziness.

The Story of Ceviche and Co (Angelov Family); how to open an original and successful restaurant?
In 2022, the Civilly team, providing the service: turnkey design and renovation on the French Riviera, took on the task of bringing the clients' (restaurateurs) ideas to life: creating a cozy atmosphere in the interior design for their new restaurant in the business district of Arenas, in beautiful Nice on the French Riviera.
The technical assignment for interior design project development included creating a unique concept that would combine the cultural heritage of two countries – Peru and Japan – in one space, creating a unique place for relaxation and culinary enjoyment.
The restaurant premises are located a 10-minute walk from Nice airport, in a district with many office buildings and hotels, so the establishment experiences lunch and dinner rushes and sometimes “peak” traffic.
The main specificity of the Ceviche restaurant premises is the absence of an exhaust system and a limit on electricity consumption, so we had to create a restaurant with an open kitchen, where cooking is done in the dining area in front of guests, but without using a hot stove, similar to a sushi bar format.
The menu is based on traditional seafood dishes from Peruvian and Japanese cuisine: ceviche, sushi, gyoza (Asian steamed dumplings). The restaurateurs came up with the name – Ceviche and Co, which defines the restaurant's concept.
Ceviche is a traditional dish from Latin America, especially popular in Peru and Mexico. It is made from raw fish or seafood marinated in lemon or lime juice, which "cooks" them through acidity. Additionally, onion, chili, salt, and often cilantro are added. Ceviche is usually served with sides such as corn, sweet potatoes, or avocado.
The influence of interior design, concept, and layout solutions on restaurant success
In the modern world, restaurants compete not only with the quality of their cuisine but also with the atmosphere they create for their guests. In this context, layout solutions and design play a key role in achieving success and recognition. In addition, a restaurant design project is absolutely necessary for calculating construction and finishing costs and overall renovation, planning, and execution of work.
Understanding the target audience
The first and most important step in creating a successful restaurant is understanding the target audience. The layout and interior design should match guests' expectations and preferences. For example, a young audience values modern, stylish interiors with open spaces and zoned areas for socializing. Families, on the other hand, prefer cozy and safe areas for children and comfortable tables for dining together.
Layout solutions
- Efficient use of space. Proper layout allows for the most efficient use of the restaurant area. This includes the placement of tables, bar counter, waiting area, and kitchen space to minimize congestion and create comfortable conditions for all guests.
- Zoning. Dividing the restaurant into different zones – for large groups, couples, families with children – helps meet diverse client needs. Zones can be distinguished by decor, lighting, or furniture.
- Guest flow. A well-designed layout ensures smooth movement for guests and staff. Narrow aisles and inconvenient furniture placement can cause discomfort and reduce service quality.
- Acoustic comfort. It is important to consider space acoustics. Noise can significantly affect the perception of the restaurant. Zoning and soundproofing materials help create a pleasant atmosphere.
The impact of good restaurant design and project on guests' impressions
- First impressions. Design and layout create the first impression of the restaurant. A well-maintained, stylish interior evokes positive emotions and the desire to return.
- Comfort and convenience. Comfortable seating, appropriate tables, and proper lighting affect overall impressions. Guests should feel at ease while enjoying their meal and socializing.
- Photogenic appeal. In the age of social media, the visual appeal of a restaurant is invaluable. Aesthetically pleasing interiors encourage guests to take photos and share their experiences, serving as free advertising for the establishment.
Interior design and concept of Ceviche and Co restaurant
The interior of Ceviche and Co was developed by our team of architects and designers, and the result is outstanding! Moreover, we became friends with the owners and created a space that combines Peruvian exoticism with Japanese elegance. The restaurant's decor is based on a blend of ethnic style and loft, giving it a unique character and coziness. Inspired by traditional elements of these design directions, CIVILLY French Riviera designers used natural materials, warm colors, and original decorative elements to create a harmonious and cozy atmosphere.
Key design idea of the restaurant
In the "Ceviche and Co" restaurant in Nice, France, the key design element is the mysterious and majestic Nazca Lines geoglyphs. We aimed to create a space that not only offers exquisite dishes but also transports guests into the world of ancient cultures and mystical symbols.
Nazca geoglyphs (or Nazca Lines) are ancient geoglyphs located on the Nazca Plateau in the southern desert of Peru. These enormous drawings and lines etched on the ground are considered some of the most mysterious archaeological objects in the world.
We integrated these symbols into the restaurant interior as the main decorative lighting fixture and as prints on craft wallpaper. They became the central idea, a powerful pillar – the axis around which the design revolves.
Open kitchen, sushi bar – format features
This format has competitive advantages:
- Transparency. Guests can see how their food is prepared, which increases trust in the establishment.
- Spectacle. The cooking process can be captivating and entertaining to watch.
- Interactivity. Chefs can interact with guests, answer questions, and make the dining experience more personalized.
- Freshness and quality. Food is prepared on-site, ensuring the use of fresh ingredients and high-quality dishes.
Restaurants with open kitchens offer guests a unique experience, combining delicious food with visual pleasure from observing the cooking process.
Ethnic motifs in Ceviche restaurant design
To create an authentic Peruvian atmosphere, we used elements of traditional Peruvian decor such as ceramics, textiles, and handmade works of local artisans. Combined with minimalist Japanese accents – paper lanterns, natural wood, and simple furniture – this created a unique interior that surprises and inspires visitors.
Loft aesthetic in the restaurant interior
The loft style added industrial elements to the design, such as metal structures, large windows allowing plenty of light, and furniture design. This not only creates a sense of space and airiness but also emphasizes the modernity and style of the establishment.
Restaurant design in Nice: implementation details
Our main goal was to create an atmospheric space, and we achieved it. This is the result of collaboration between the client, our designers, and contractors. We managed to capture the essence of the restaurant design idea and implement it in a unique and expressive interior. Carefully thought-out details, lighting, and color schemes create an authentic Peruvian atmosphere. Add to this excellent ceviche or escabeche from the chef, and you’ll feel as if you’re on the Pacific coast, enjoying the warm rays of the setting sun.
Technical features of restaurant project implementation
- Layout. The space was designed to maximize area usage and create comfortable zones for guests. The restaurant includes cozy corners for romantic dinners and spacious tables for large groups.
- Lighting. We used a combination of natural and artificial lighting to create a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Large windows let in daylight, and in the evening, soft lamps and fixtures create a cozy dim ambiance.
- Materials. Natural materials were used in the interior – wood, stone, straw lamps, natural jute ropes. This is not only eco-friendly but also adds warmth and coziness to the interior.
- Color scheme. Main colors include deep blue, oceanic shades, and warm earthy tones harmoniously combined with bright ethnic accent elements. This creates a balance between calm and exoticism.
Minimal budget for restaurant project – result of CIVILLY interior architects’ professionalism
A lively and cozy restaurant interior with bright design solutions was created with a minimal implementation budget. All work was carried out under the careful supervision of Civilly specialists. Every interior detail was worked out meticulously and carries not only aesthetic but also functional value. At Ceviche, you can not only enjoy the atmosphere but also feel comfortable. It is convenient both for guests and for our staff. And, of course, do not forget about delicious food! Come and see for yourself!
Evolution of the establishment: Pop-up restaurant “U Angelovyh”, cuisine with Odessa accent
What is a Pop-up restaurant?
A Pop-up restaurant is a temporary dining establishment that opens for a short period, usually from a few days to several months. These restaurants often appear in unconventional locations, such as vacant buildings, parks, rooftops, or even private homes. Key features of pop-up restaurants include:
- Temporariness. They operate for a limited time, creating a sense of exclusivity and uniqueness.
- Creativity. Pop-up restaurants often offer unusual menus or themed dinners, experimenting with new concepts and ideas.
- Flexibility. Such restaurants can quickly adapt to different locations and audiences, providing a new experience in each place.
- Marketing. Pop-up restaurants use social media and word-of-mouth to attract attention and create buzz around their events.
These establishments are popular among chefs who want to test new dishes or concepts and among food enthusiasts seeking unique culinary experiences.
Pop-up restaurant "U Angelovyh" in "Ceviche and Co"
A few months after opening, we met famous Odessa restaurateurs Yulia and Irina Angelovy and introduced them to the owners of Ceviche and Co.
Due to location specifics and the owners’ availability, until that moment, the restaurant operated only on weekdays during lunch hours.
As a result of the partnership, the idea of a Pop-up restaurant emerged: on weekends, Ceviche transforms into a place to enjoy Ukrainian and Odessa cuisine prepared by the Angelovy sisters.
Restaurant "U Angelovyh" in "Ceviche and Co" – fame and success
The café became incredibly popular not only among our compatriots but also with the local audience. The concept of “tasty Odessa” in Nice proved to be truly successful. The restaurant "U Angelovyh" in "Ceviche and Co" began being mentioned in popular French publications as well as Ukrainian online resources! This cooperation is a perfect example of how integrating different cultural traditions can create a unique atmosphere and attract wide attention.
And what about celebrities? They are here in the photo! Vera Brezhneva and her team enjoy homemade potatoes “U Angelovyh” at Ceviche and Co! This confirms that our establishment attracts not only regular visitors but also celebrities who appreciate a unique atmosphere and delicious food.
Guests are thrilled, which means everything was done perfectly. We are confident that your list of favorite city restaurants will now include another venue with excellent interior design, cuisine, and authentic Peruvian atmosphere.
At Civilly, we are proud of our cooperation with Ceviche and glad it went beyond just designing the restaurant. Our idea of working with the Angelovy sisters brought even more popularity to the establishment.
